Our Focus
The Gandyr Foundation aspires to strengthen Israel as a Jewish, democratic, prosperous, and thriving state, in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence; a state that acts according to values of social justice, equality, and freedom, and operates from a balanced perception of power and a humanistic worldview. We view Israeli democracy as a precious and essential asset for our existence, one that cannot be taken for granted and requires determined efforts to preserve and nurture.
Within a complex reality of divisions and polarization, we seek to help promote a discourse of hope and create a shared moral foundation among the diverse groups and communities in Israeli society.
We believe that to achieve this, it is necessary to strengthen both the institutional infrastructure and structural arrangements that guarantee the existence of democracy, alongside cultivating a strong, vibrant democratic culture led by an engaged citizenry that actively shapes the face of the state and society.
In our view, Israeli philanthropy holds significant potential influence and bears responsibility for strengthening Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. Therefore, we chose to operate in this field both as an independent foundation and as part of broad philanthropic partnerships.
Our Connection
The strengthening of democracy in Israel is at the top of the priorities of Jude Yovel Recanati, founder and chair of the Foundation, her daughters and their spouses, who jointly lead the Foundation’s work in this area.
Grants
Out of a belief in strengthening civil society organizations, since its establishment the Foundation has supported many initiatives, programs, and organizations nationwide. In this field, the supported organizations are social organizations that work to promote Israel as a Jewish and democratic state and integrate democratic values into their diverse activities. The Foundation supports the improvement and strengthening of these organizations’ infrastructures, as well as the innovative programs they develop. The Foundation upholds principles of partnership, learning, and innovation in all its actions.
